Milk of Magnesia is the common name given to Magnesium Hydroxide solution, the white suspension, used as a laxative to relieve occasional constipation, as an antacid for indigestion, sour stomach, and heartburn, or as a mineral supplement to maintain the body’s magnesium balance. Milk of Magnesia is no longer available as a commercial product in Australia, but we can compound this at the pharmacy, according to the original formula.

Newtons’ Compounded Milk of Magnesia is a smooth, carefully formulated magnesium-based suspension traditionally used to relieve constipation, acid indigestion, heartburn, and sour stomach. It works by drawing water into the intestines to soften stool and promote comfortable bowel movements. As an antacid, it neutralises excess stomach acid, easing digestive discomfort quickly and gently.

Active Ingredients :

• Magnesium Oxide – as Magnesium Hydroxide

• Citric Acid, USP – Supports pH balance and stabilisation

• Distilled Water, APF – Purified base for smooth suspension

Free of preservatives, artificial flavorings, sweeteners, and colorants
Lightly flavoured with natural peppermint essence on request

How It Works:

Magnesium Hydroxide is both an osmotic laxative and an antacid:

• As a laxative, it increases water in the intestines, softening stools and promoting natural elimination without cramping.

• As an antacid, it reacts with stomach acid to form magnesium chloride and water, providing fast relief from acid reflux, indigestion, and sour stomach.

It is ideal for occasional digestive discomfort or to support regular bowel function in gentle detox programs.

Recommended Use:

Adults: 10–30 mL once daily or as directed by a practitioner.
Children under 12: Use only under professional supervision.
Shake well before use.
