Kelp is seaweed, also known as Bladderwrack, valued mainly as a rich natural source of Iodine. Kelp is also a natural source of amino acids, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, and other minerals including zinc, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium.
Iodine rich compounds, including kelp, may raise the metabolic rate by increasing hormone production by the thyroid gland and therefore may ease the symptoms of underactive thyroid function and related lethargy and weight gain.
Other reported uses: arthritis, colorectal cancer. The consumption of seaweed in general, is associated with lower cancer rates.
