Traditional Use and Knowledge:

Traditionally, this herb has been used as an astringent to stop diarrhea and halt bleeding, to improve the functioning of the liver and gallbladder, to reduce swelling (inflammation) of the kidney, bladder and gallbladder, and to prevent the formation of stones in the above, to treat ulcers, to relieve swollen breasts, and bring down high blood pressure.

Herb Robert is considered an outstanding antimicrobial and immune-enhancing herb. A 2017 study conducted in Wrocław, Poland, tested Herb Robert essential oil against several types of bacteria (^). These included pathogens that infect humans, plants, and animals. The results of the study help us understand the historical uses of the herb against certain infections. Most significantly, they showed that the oil from Herb Robert leaf could kill and inhibit all types of bacteria tested, including E. coli, Strp, Staph, and Bacillus.

Other notable benefits of this herb are the anti-inflammatory activities and antioxidants that it offers. Research has revealed Herb Robert is a source of germanium, a valuable element to the body, an adaptogen with the ability to make oxygen available to the cells. More oxygen at cell level means the body has the opportunity to fight disease using its own powers, and healing can take place much faster. Germanium has a significant importance for the cell oxygenation, immunity, and cancer prevention and chronic fatigue syndrome. 

Preparation: To make a herbal tea, infuse   ½ -1 teaspoon of dried leaves with 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 5 minutes, strain, add honey, and drink.

An infusion prepared with the herb Robert leaves was used traditionally to help infections of the kidney, stomach disorders, jaundice and kidney stones. Today, people drink Geranium tea just for general well being, as a source of antioxidants and the trace element germanium.

The infusion can also be used as a soak or a rinse for swollen feet, painful joints, swollen breasts, and bruises.
