Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is a natural compound used for the relief of symptoms associated with underproduction of hydrochloric acid. The recommended dose is 400mg, taken immediately prior a main meal once or twice daily. Betaine may also be indicated when the levels of homocysteine are above normal, a known cardiovascular risk factor. The dose then depends on the homocysteine concentration and varies between 1 gram(for levels 3 to 6) and 6g(for level 15 and above).
