Potassium citrate is a water-soluble powder and a safe natural pH buffer, widely used in the food industry. 

As a health supplement, potassium citrate helps correct low potassium levels and reduce the acidity in conditions caused by high levels of uric acid, such as gout, kidney stones, and rheumatism.

Potassium is an electrolyte, essential for the overall fluid and electrolyte balance, and required for nerve transmission, muscle contractions, sugar metabolism, gastrointestinal motility, and bone calcification. 

Caution: Potassium citrate is best used under professional supervision. It is contraindicated in hyperkalemia, severe kidney disease, Addison's disease, and certain heart conditions. Potassium citrate may interact with diuretics and other prescription drugs, and cause severe adverse effects if taken at a higher than the recommended dose. 

Dose: Potassium citrate is best taken dissolved in water or juice and with food. The optimum dose and duration of treatment will depend on the desired outcome, overall health, and diet of each person and therefore needs to be calculated on an individual level by your health practitioner. Since potassium is readily available in fruits and vegetables, it is best not to exceed 300mg (1/10 of a teaspoon) of additional potassium citrate per day unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
