The Latin name of Uva usi translates to Bear's grape. The names of this plant reflect the fact that Uva ursi's berries are favourite amongst the local bear population.
The leaves of Uva Ursi contain compounds with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties.
Uva Ursi is used primarily for urinary tract disorders, including infections of the kidney, bladder, and urethra; swelling (inflammation) of the urinary tract; increased urination; painful urination; and urine that contains excess uric acid or other acids. Uva ursi, sweet sumach, hops, and peppermint are often used in combination for compulsive bedwetting and painful urination.
Side effects: May cause nausea in sensitive individuals. Take with or after meals to avoid this if you have sensitive stomach.
