Traditional Use: In 1905 the United States Department of Agriculture called attention to the increasing demand for Golden Seal for medicinal purposes.and stated that the early settlers learned of the virtues of Golden Seal from the American Indians, who used the root as a medicine and its yellow juice as a stain for their faces and a dye for their clothing.
Golden Seal is well known as a traditional remedy for disorders of the digestive system, the pancreas, the liver and the gall bladder. It is used both internally and topically, as it aids healing of both external and internal sores and ulcers.
Active consituents: A range of alkaloids (hydrastine, berberine) with antimicrobial and antifungal activity, bitters.
