Description:
Traditional Fluid Extract of Hydrangea Root, Hydrangea arborescens, in 25% Ethanol and Purified Water.
Traditional Use: Native to North America and parts of Asia, hydrangea root has been culturally significant for thousands of years and was widely used in Native American traditional medicine The name Hydrangea is derived from a Greek word denoting a water vessel. The Cherokee Indians used Hydrangea to treat kidney and bladder stones, as did Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners. The Physicomedicalists of the 19th century used Hydrangea as part of a remedial formula in treating kidney disorders including nephritis.
Traditionally, Hydrangea root was used mostly for the symptomatic relief of enlarged prostate, bladder infections, kidney and gallbladder stones and calcifications and as antiparasitic remedy in malaria. Hydrangea helps redice uric acid levels and aids pain relief due to uric acid deposits as in gout for example. The recommended dose is 1 ml (20 drops) three times a day.
Evidence-based findings: There are no human studies presently available to justify the traditional medicinal use of Hydrangea.
Caution: There have been reports of nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, and dizzyness, following Hydrangea intake. Intake of hydrangea root for extended periods of time, or by breastfeeding or pregnant women is not recommended.
For maximal therapeutic results, modern herbalists prefer to use blend of herbs with multiple beneficial effects. Hydrangea is a common ingredient in herbal blends targetting inflammation of the bladder, kidney stones and prostate problems.
