It is also a mild laxative and diuretic. Therapeutically, the plant lignum vitae is mainly employed as a tea. To prepare, add one teaspoonful of the dried wood chips in a cup of water and bring to boil. Allow it to simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. Drink one cup in the morning, at lunch, and after dinner.In addition, a tincture prepared with lignum vitae is used as a friction rub on areas affected by rheumatic arthritis.
