Black horehound, Ballota nigra, dried leaves
Black horehound has a long history of herbal use, being especially effective in its action as an antiemetic for treatment of nausea and travel sickness and for vomiting due to nervous tension. The whole plant contains antiemetic, antispasmodic and anti-parasitic ingredients. Black horehound remedies were known to help in menopausal complaints and in gout.
Traditionally, black horehound has been used in the form of a tincture or tea. Prepare the tea by adding about two teaspoon of the leaves to one cup (250 ml) of hot water and leave it aside allowing the leaves to infuse for about 10 to 15 minutes.
The standard dosage is drinking one cup of this tea up to three rimes a day, if needed.
