Fucus vesiculosus, known by the common name Bladder Wrack, is a seaweed found on the coasts of the North Sea, the western Baltic Sea, and the Atlantic.
It was the original source of iodine, discovered in 1811.
Bladderwrack is a good source of Vitamin C, Iodine (the mineral needed for proper thyroid function) and of various L-fucose compounds.
Iodine is well as known for preventing fatigue and muscle weakness, the thyroid gland, powered by iodine, releases the hormones responsible for libido, sex appeal and youthful appearance.
Kelp raises the metabolic rate by increasing hormone production by the thyroid gland and it is thus beneficial in cases of underactive thyroid function and related lethargy and weight gain. Other reported uses: arthritis, colorectal cancer. The consumption of seaweed in general, is associated with lower cancer rates.
Seaweed granules for a considered flavour
Dried seaweed granules deliver colour and texture, offering a satisfying mouth feel and slower taste delivery.
The granules melt pleasingly on the tongue, allowing protein taste receptors to welcome glutamates into the body. It's this effect which makes seaweed an effective salt replacement and seasoning. Add to soups and salads.
