Botanical Name: Drosera rotundifolia
Sundew tea was used as cough medicine in Europe in the 12th century, perhaps even earlier. According to the classic references the medicinal use of sundew continued through the centuries, mainly for dry cough and asthma or "bronchial cramps". A modern study has confirmed the traditional belief that Drosera exhibits antitussive (stopping the the cough) properties.
Sundews are still used today in some 200-300 registered medications, usually in combination with other herbal ingredients for ailments such as asthma, coughs, lung infections, and stomach ulcers. Sundews are used for the preparation of teas, as homoeopathic tincture, and herbal extracts.
