Ruta Graveolens Infused Oil
Rue infused oil is made by infusing 1 part of dried herb (Ruta graveolens) with 4 parts of pharmaceutical grade Almond Oil
Traditional and Topical Uses of Infused Rue Oil:
1. Pain Relief for Joints and Muscles
	-
Uses: Applied topically to relieve arthritic pain, rheumatism, neuralgia, and sciatica.
-
How it works: Rue contains rutin and volatile oils that help improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and ease muscle spasms.
2. Antispasmodic for Cramps and Muscle Spasms
	-
Uses: Massaged into the abdomen or limbs to reduce menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, or cramping pain.
-
Action: Its warming and soothing properties help relax smooth muscle tissue.
3. Nerve Pain and Neuralgia
	-
Uses: Used in external applications for trigeminal neuralgia, shingles pain, and nerve-related discomfort.
-
Mechanism: Mild local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effects help reduce pain perception.
4. Vein and Circulatory Support
	-
Uses: Traditionally used to support varicose veins and poor circulation.
-
Action: Rue’s flavonoids, especially rutin, help strengthen capillaries and veins and support vascular tone.
5. Antifungal and Antimicrobial
	-
Uses: Occasionally used on minor skin infections, fungal conditions (like athlete's foot), or insect bites.
-
Mechanism: Contains essential oil constituents with mild antiseptic action.
Safety and Cautions
	-
Rue is a potent herb: The essential oil is too strong for direct use and may be toxic. Infused oil is gentler but should still be used with caution.
-
Do not use during pregnancy: Rue can stimulate uterine contractions.
-
Photosensitivity: Rue oil may increase sensitivity to sunlight; avoid UV exposure after application.
-
Skin testing: Always perform a patch test before broader use.
Common Applications
	-
Massage oils: Blended into massage oils for muscular and joint relief.
-
Compresses: Infused oil applied to cloth and used as a warm compress.
-
Salves and ointments: Combined with beeswax or shea butter for targeted topical use.
